Hatua in Kenya
'Hatua' generally means 'decision' in swahili, but it also means opportunity, promise, development, and action which combined seem to describe my experience here. I'm doing film work at an organization in Nairobi. But part of the assignment entails traveling a lot, which I love. In my free time, I go "home" to Kisumu in Western Kenya to spend time with my adopted family, where I stayed for 2.5 months last year.

That is SUCH a cool study, Katie!! That sounds like amazing work. Maybe someday, the students in different environmental classes will be watching one of your documentaries about this work. What are the native trees like? What sort of adaptations do they have to their climates? Why were Eucalyptus trees seen as more desirable to begin with, and how long ago did that begin//end? Ahh, so many questions... I can hardly wait to hear more about the amazing stuff you're doing! ~Yvea
